Which Ugandan Coffee Grades Are US Specialty Roasters Buying?

The US imported 31.9M kg of Ugandan coffee in the 12 months to November 2025 (UCDA). The fastest growth is in specialty Arabica: US roasters are buying micro-lots, natural process Arabica, and certified organic grades for the $48 billion US coffee market.

How Does Nonda's Direct Trade Program Serve US Roasters?

US third-wave roasters demand transparency, quality premiums, and direct relationships. Our direct trade model is built for this:

23% Above Farmgate Price

We pay farmers 23% above the UCDA farmgate price. This premium drives cherry quality upward: better picking, better sorting, better processing.

Full Farm-to-Cup Traceability

Every lot is traceable to the cooperative and washing station. US roasters receive GPS coordinates, farmer profiles, and harvest dates for their marketing and packaging.

Sample Before Container

Request 250g or 1kg samples shipped within 14 days. Cup the lot before committing. No US roaster should buy a container they have not tasted.

USA Import FAQ

What are the duties and FDA requirements for Uganda coffee entering the US?
Green coffee beans are duty-free under HTS code 0901.11.00. The FDA requires prior notice submission at least 2 hours before vessel arrival. USDA may conduct phytosanitary inspections on green coffee. Nonda Coffee provides all required documentation: certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, fumigation certificate, bill of lading, commercial invoice, and packing list.
How long does shipping take from Uganda to US ports?
Transit from Mombasa to US East Coast ports (Newark, Savannah, Norfolk) takes 5-8 weeks. US West Coast (Oakland, Long Beach) takes 6-9 weeks. Coffee ships in 60kg jute bags with GrainPro hermetic liners inside 20-foot containers (~19.2 MT). FOB and CIF terms available.
Can US roasters visit Nonda's farms and washing stations?
Yes. We host roaster origin trips to Mount Elgon and Mount Rwenzori. Visit the farms, meet the cooperative leaders, cup fresh lots at our Kampala lab, and select your containers at source. Contact our export desk to schedule an origin trip or view our full Arabica supplier page.
